Marathon 3DL Cruising Products

Exceptionally fast, amazingly low stretch, incredibly tough…North's Marathon 3DL™ sails are the world's most advanced cruising upwind sail. Each sail is built with an internal 3DL fiber matrix designed specifically for cruising loads and North's rugged external taffeta/films (TF) to provide exceptional resistance to chafe, tear and UV degradation. For those who relish performance and the security of speed, this is the ultimate upwind cruising sail.

The durability of Marathon sails has been proven by circumnavigating single handed ocean racers, year round cruising sailors who commute to the tropics, and high mileage, high latitude adventure sailors.

Marathon 3DL Mainsails

Marathon mainsails are unsurpassed in shape-holding ability, especially when reefed. The internal 3DL fiber matrix is modified to address each reef that is designed into your sail. The reef structure is an integral part of the overall sail structure. When you reef a Marathon mainsail, it gets flatter. And because the strength is derived from the fiber matrix, rather than bulky and much less effective external reinforcement, the sails are significantly lighter and more flexible in the reef areas.

Features

  • FullBatten design with virtually indestructible tapered epoxy battens.
  • Batten pockets are laminated into the sail and reinforced on both sides with rugged dual-axis Spectra tape.
  • Batten hardware is selected to exceed the calculated loads of the sail.
  • High load areas of the sail and areas where localized strain is predicted (such as slide attachment areas, batten ends at the leech, and all reef points in the sail) are reinforced with additional internal fiber passes.
  • Areas prone to chafe, compression or flexure during reefing are reinforced with sacrificial external layers of woven Spectra or Dacron.
  • Stainless steel rings with strap reinforcement.
  • Loose foot design.
  • Spectra leechlne and pre-stretched footline with aluminum cleats.
  • All North mainsails include telltales and a heavy-duty drawstring sailbag.

Options

  • Batten tension adjustment at luff.
  • Multi-purpose overhead leechline.
  • Sail numbers and/or insignia.
  • Draft stripes.
  • Custom luff track cars.
  • In-boom furling systems.

Marathon 3DL Headsails

Features

  • High modulus leech and foot cords tied into multipart purchase systems that allow you to easily fine tune the sails edges.
  • Due to the great shape-holding characteristics of 3DL, draft location and depth of the Marathon headsail is easily controlled through changes to halyard tension and sheet lead locations.
  • Spreader and stanchion patches.
  • Stainless steel rings with strap reinforcement.
  • All North headsails include telltales and a heavy-duty drawstring sailbag.

Options

  • Telltale windows.
  • RopeLuff or FoamLuff for roller-furling genoas.
  • UV protection for roller-furling genoas.
  • StepUP™ optimized panel construction.
  • Draft stripes.
  • Vertical battens.
