Cruising Laminates
North's Soft NorLam™ sails are made with North's own Soft NorLam fabric, which is a sandwich of Mylar film surrounded by polyester fabric. This blend creates a sail that is lighter and stretches less than traditional polyester, yet it is soft and comfortable to handle. Because the film is covered on both sides by a tightly woven polyester fabric, Soft NorLam sails have the clean look of a traditional, but less efficient Dacron sail.
North's SR Spectra™ sails deliver an unmatched combination of light weight, low stretch and long life for cruising sailors looking for superior performance. Our Spectra sails are all built from fabric woven on our own looms at North Cloth. Their exceptional low stretch-to -weight ratios are the result of using only the highest grade Spectra/Dyneema fibers and the tightest weaves in the industry.
Soft NorLam and SR Spectra paneled cruising sails feature radial panel construction to more effectively align threads with loads in the sail, resulting in less stretch, lower weight, a smoother shape and an increased wind range.

Cruising Laminate Mainsails
Features
- Batten pockets, slide installation materials and corner and local reinforcements are all engineered to provide years of trouble free use.
- Areas of the sail that are commonly prone to chafe or flexing when reefed are reinforced with additional layers of Dacron fabric.
- Battens are made with virtually indestructible epoxy and glass laminates.
- Teardrop patches which efficiently disperse corner loads into the body of the sail to eliminate damaging stress concentrations.
- All North mainsails include telltales and a heavy-duty drawstring sailbag.
