Gennakers™ and Snuffers
North's latest G-Series Gennakers™ set a new standard for downwind cruising performance with a range of models carefully designed to suit your individual sailing style. Gennakers feature panels that are shaped along both the horizontal and vertical axis to produce a uniquely smooth flying shape that is both exceptionally stable and easy to trim. Combined with North's SnufferPlus™ , your North Gennaker makes improving your downwind sailing performance easy.
All North downwind cruising sails include an EZ Launch and Store™ box turtle and a tack strap as standard accessories.
G2 Gennaker
The G-2 Gennaker, the largest and most powerful Gennaker made by North Sails, is designed to excel in light-to-moderate running and reaching conditions. Its forgiving shape allows it to be flown with the sheet cleated for extended periods of time, even with autopilot steering. With some practice, the G-2 can be used in strong breeze conditions with the wind aft of the beam.
G3 Gennaker
North's most versatile Gennaker is smaller and flatter than the G-2, but designed with the same forgiving shape. Like the G-2, the G-3 is optimized to fly in a wide range of apparent wind angle without the need for constant adjustment of the sheet, which makes it possible to use the sail even when the autopilot is driving with a following sea or with a relaxed human at the helm. The G-3 excels in light air tight reaching and running/broad reaching in windier conditions.
G0 Gennaker
Derived from the famous Code-0 asymetrics used by winning Volvo Ocean racers, the optimized shape and depth of the G-0 allows for efficient sailing at tigher angles and/or stronger winds than other G-Series Gennakers. The G-0 can be ordered with integral roller furling, a North Snuffer Plus™ or free-flying. All G-0's are equipped with adjustable leech and foot cords and a single or double, High Modulus luff rope system.
Options
Snuffer Plus™
North's Snuffer Plus™ is an ingenious system that makes setting and dousing your Gennaker easier and safer (especially for short-handed crews) by gathering and encasing the sail into a Nylon™ tube. When you hoist or douse the sail it is enclosed by the Snuffer Plus, leaving you with an easy-to-handle tube rather than arms full of sailcloth blowing over the rail. Our Snuffer Plus features a special tapered tube that ensure smooth operation, and molded funnels (poly, fiberglass, or carbon, depending on boat size) designed to minimize twists and wraps while gathering the sail. A convenient control line quickly pulls the Snuffer Plus up or down.
Plus™ Construction
This option reinforces the Gennaker luff with stronger NorLon™ spinnaker fabric, reducing luff stretch on tighter reaching angles and in higher wind ranges. Plus construction maintains designed shape over a broader wind range and improves sail life (most applicable for boats over 40ft or those that typically sail in higher wind ranges.)
